Lineage
The Joshi pandits of Varanasi
Acharya Rudradev Joshi is the third jyotishi in his maternal line. His grandfather, Pandit Lakshman Joshi (1932-2018), practiced from a small chamber in Assi Ghat, Varanasi for over sixty years. Pandit Lakshman ji was known for refusing celebrity clients and for giving consultations free to anyone who walked in before sunrise.
Acharya Rudradev grew up watching his naana-ji read. He learned by listening - through the brass lamp's flicker, through the questions visitors asked, through the answers his naana-ji gave with the same calm whether the answer was good or hard.
Training
Sanskrit first, jyotish after
Formal Sanskrit study began at age eight, at the family's traditional gurukul in Varanasi. Jyotish Shastra started at fourteen - first as memorization of the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika, then as supervised reading of charts under naana-ji.
Acharya certification came at twenty-five, from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi - cleared in all three Shastri, Acharya, and Vidya-Varidhi examinations on the first attempt.
Practice
Thirty-nine years. Over 12,000 readings.
Practiced from Varanasi for the first eighteen years. Moved to Rishikesh in 2015 to focus only on consultations and to step away from the city's noise. He has refused television appearances, celebrity endorsements, and every paid commercial offer made to him.
He works alone, supported by a small assistant who types out his answers for the seeker. He gives readings only in writing - not in person, not over phone - so that each answer can be sat with, re-read, and judged in stillness.
His method
Classical Parashari. Nothing borrowed.
Lahiri ayanamsha. Whole-sign houses. Vimshottari Dasha for timing. Ashtakoot guna milan for compatibility. Sade Sati, Mahadasha, gochar read against the chart, not against the seeker's mood.
No Western astrology. No tarot. No Vastu, no numerology, no gemstones for sale. No medical, death-timing, specific legal, or specific investment advice - those questions are refused, and the consultation is refunded automatically.
